Type: Remodel
Size: 4000 sqft
Location: Union Station, Kansas City, Missouri
Client: Offices for a Real Estate Investment Trust
Response:
This tenant finish project is additional office space for a rapidly expanding real estate investment company already housed in Kansas City’s historic Union Station. The expansion space is located on a separate floor from the original offices, so the client took the opportunity to develop a distinctly different approach to the new offices. In order to minimize relocation of existing mechanical and electrical systems, a plan was developed which pushed circulation to the exterior of centralized semi-private offices. The translucent sliding door system of the offices, along with the kinetic reception desk and the swiveling lobby-to-conference monitor, were designed and constructed in a low-tech fashion to recall the mechanics and kinetics of the surrounding rail yards. Subtle shades of green, off-white and blue were introduced as a reference to the dramatic lawn, limestone and sky composition of the neighboring World War I Memorial.
